Current I'm feeling: pissed off
I did a little scouting on the campain webpages of the remaining presidential candidates. Each one seems to have slightly different regulations about donating to their campaign. It appears that federal law prohibits campaign donations from:

· corporations
· labor organization treasury funds
· foreign nationals without green cards
· federal contractors
· people who are being reimbursed by another entity for their donation

Makes sense so far. But when it comes to rejecting donations from "Political Action Committees," the candidates tend to differ, as follows:

CANDIDATE'S STANCE ON PAC DONATIONS
ACCEPTS
REJECTS
N/A
McCain
Huckabee
Clinton
Nader
Obama
Paul

So what exactly is a PAC? It is defined as:
"a private group organized to elect or defeat government officials in order to promote legislation, often supporting the group’s special interests."

Some of the top donating PACs in the 2004 election include:

· National Rifle Association
· American Medical Association
· Service Employees International Union
· Teamsters Union
· International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers
· National Education Association
· American Federation of Teachers
· Laborers’ International Union of North America

So there you have it. Seems like some of these special interests are especially interested in how much money a certain political candidate receives - but no big surprises there. However: now you know which of your candidates are a part of this corrupt system, and which ones refuse to participate.

7. Feb. 2007 @ 22:55 Story of my life
Current I'm feeling: contemplative
At the beginning, I was a speck; luckily, one with a nucleus. I was classified as a metazoan, and that's when things really started turning up. First, I split down a single axis of symmetry, and my internal tube became an anus. After that, I grew a notochord. Then I gained cartilagenous elements which become calcified, and hence developed into vertebrae. Next, my mouth became jawed, and my fins became lobed, and I crawled up onto land, where I developed an amniotic egg. Then my skull developed a single cranial fenestra, which really opened my mind to a lot of new options. Suddenly I was able to thermoregulate, so I grew fur and mammaries, and a placenta; then pentadactyly with an opposing pollux, and a narrow nose. My brain became really large, so I decided to go bipedal. Then I was born. I lived near Boston for a while, where I developed my ability to speak and walk and go to the bathroom on my own. Eventually I moved and started attending school full time. As of recently, I am feeling fossilized in a seemingly endless academic eon, which makes the transition from chondricthyes to osteichthyes look like cake. I wonder what the next step will be.
